1 John 4 Summary

Don’t believe every spirit, but test their origin. Every spirit that confesses that Jesus came physically is of God, and every spirit that denies this isn’t, but is the spirit of antichrist, which has already entered the world.  The world hears them because they are of the world, but they won’t hear you because they don’t know God.

You can know the spirit of truth and of error by this: everyone who loves is born of God and knows Him, and he who doesn’t love doesn’t know God.  God showed His love by sending His Son to redeem us from sin, and we ought, likewise, to love one another.  We know that we dwell in God and He in us if we have His Spirit of Love.  We thereby testify of the Son, the Saviour of the World.

Our love is perfected, that we may be bold before Him, as we imitate Him in the world.  Perfect love has no fear, and he who lacks boldness is not yet perfected in love.  We love Him because He first loved us, but we can’t say we love the Invisible God, when we hate our visible brother.  We must love our brother also.
